Is it ok to do this to my teeth?

I have a gap in my two front teeth but its not that big. One of my friends told me to use the small hair rubber bands and put them on my teeth. Will this work?

BTW my gap is about l l that big...lol thats the only way 2 describe it.

No rubber bands are not good to use. They will end up tipping the teeth instead of moving them. Talk to a dentist or orthodontist about a retainer that could close the gap. Another option to close the gap is a dentist could bond composite. It actually requires removing tooth structure and making the gap bigger, but this gives enough room to put the filling in and then it looks good as new.

You can get it fixed professionally if you don't like it, but I would not mess with the rubber bands. It could mess up your whole mouth.

My friend tried doing that and it made her teeth cross over eachother. It was so bad she had to have jaw surgery because braces couldn't even fix it! Don't TRY it!

I am a dentist and I got a C in my orthodontic classes in dental school. Orthodontics is hard enough, and I am in the field!

You do NOT want to be practicing orthodontics on yourself, much less doing it with "small hair rubber bands". Trust me.

a gap between the two front teeth can be an endearing feature. do not mess with it or your self. I will bet you are beautiful as you are.

I used to be, in my youth, a dental assistant. if you need to get reid of you gap go to an orthodontist for work.
