Has a band ever released a single that seemed misleading to you?

I was flipping through stations on the way in and I heard Extreme's "More Than Words". This got me thinking about how that song, and the following single "Hole-Hearted", were released and how both songs shot up the charts and exposed them to quite a few new fans.

The problem was that both songs were acoustic-based, so when all of these new fans ran out to get copies of the album, Extreme II: Pornograffiti, they were shocked to hear that this was actually a typically plugged-in, hair metal band. The singles seemed to be pretty far from the norm.

Can you think of any other cases where the fans were misled (whether it was intentional or not) either musically or lyrically by a single that was released by an artist?

it's happened hundreds of times just like the current ''Hey There Delilah''

"Love Is On The Way" by Saigon Kick

The rest of the album was experimental metal.

"Follow Me" by Uncle Cracker

I worked in a music store when that was released, and let me tell you, I did more returns and exchanges to 40something mothers with that CD than you can imagine. The rest of the album was Kid Rock style rock/rap.

Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko - This band really had me fooled not just with this song but their appearance on Letterman a ways back. They appeared to be the second coming of Prodigy, but the rest of their CD was tepid alterna-drivel.

The Cardigans - Lovefool - Sort of the opposite. This band was actually a lot better than this song would lead you to believe. Unfortunately, it was embraced by adult-alternative radio and sort of pigeon-holed them. Nina Persson has quite a bit of metal in her.

well Senses Fail's 2 singles off of their album "Still Searching" is very misleading. They do scream in a majority of their songs. and the singles they have playing have no screaming...so the fans of the singles that are buying the cd are misled.

Fly - Sugar Ray

Never been a fan of the band, but that song was a whole lot poppier than the rock/metal songs populating the majority of that album. I think that song pigeonholed them into playing VH1 safe poppy rock songs.

Crazytown's Butterfly was nothing like their other tunes..hence a one hit wonder!
