is it me or are more and more kids dressing up in black, dying their hair, listen to weak bands(you know what i mean...i hope) and call themselves "rocker" or "emo" or "punk" or "goth"???
thanks.

Why people search for an identity by pretending to be what they obviously are not, is beyond me!

I don't know what kind of music this kid listened too but I saw one that had a hat pulled way down and a scarf pulled way up on his face so far that he ran into a low hanging tree branch because he couldn't see. They'll eventually grow out of it. I grew out of hippie shirts and tie dyed stuff, oh and although I hate to admit it flare leg or bell bottom jeans.

in your screen name...you spelled labeled..labled...thats wrong.
ok, to answer you question. teens do it to feel acceptance, or look cool to whoever they want to be accepted with. its normal.
we all do something similar when we are adolescents.

I think we all have a right to dress how we want to. I was born in '91, and I dress like I'm from the 70s. I can't really help it, but what annoys me is when people actually give themselves a label to fit in with that crowd, and they act like a completely different person than they really want to be on the inside. I'll admit, I'm a weird person, and I'm not popular. Does it bother me? Not a bit, because I'm happy, and I wish more teenagers would realize that it's easier to be yourself.

I'd rather see the kids doing that than wearing the baggy pants and huge puffy jackets and listening to rap and hip hop. I do like some rap music but for the most part I don't think you should waste your ears on stuff that don't got guitars in it

It has far surpassed that of a joke. The quest to look "counter-culture" originates from the local Hot Topic at a suburban mall. You cannot get much more poser than that. Forgive the kids, we were all young, stupid and insecure at one time. Most will grow out out of it. So, no it's not just you, that is the look right now.

Whatever floats their boat, but it is a nice convenience for them. When I dressed punk, I had to make everything myself because they didn't have Hot Topics and what not. And when you wore a Mohawk, it was assumed to be at least about a foot tall and an unnatural color. Now they are puny little things that barely go an inch (although I do understand those for athletes like boxers and mma, they can't have hair in their face that much).

Im sure you did something similar because we all do. Whether it be goth, hip hop, rocker...we all try to find our place in the world as kids. Its part of our human make up.

I'd rather my boys be into "gangsta rap" than that crap! Thank GOD they like hard rock (AIC, Godsmack, Mudvayne, etc)! It saddens me that young people are so shallow that they judge people by their musical preference. Attitude and appearance are different. I feel you should dress in what you feel compliments your "self". If "self" is all black eyed and emotional, "self" needs help!!!

No people should be able to express themselves in whatever way they want. Some goth kids, I actually like their style. As long as they're not cutting themselves or something stupid like that (which I will never understand, christ, just take some drugs kids).
As far as the music, I agree. Most of those bands are weak and not talented. They need to put on some good Darkwave Industrial like Frontline Assembly, Front 242, or some old school industrial like Ministry, Thrill Kill Kult, KMFDM, Sister Machine Gun, etc.

hey that's what they said about hippies and folk music and potheads and i could go on and on. its ok and they will be ok too! ...Cleo
Is it me??or....this question is about Posers?
yes, they are, and they are doing it without any real knowlege of the group they are dressing to fit into. hence why if you wear a checkerd wrist band your suddenly punk. or if youve got that stupid swoop hair style, your emo....or if you wear black nail polish your suddenly goth. its stupid. people are doing nothing but buying into stereotypes, so the root of those subcultures has become so diluted that the real punks/goths/emos/rockers end up being the outsiders...

You're confused, those are just lame band fans. Nobody poses as the fan of a lame band.
