What is wrong with my hair?

lately,i noticed my hair keeps falling a lot when I am combing it or styling it or after washing my hair...i wash it on alternate days, use a conditioner and always add a drop or two of olive oil to the ends of my hair...i read that this is really good..i even massage some olive oil into my hair after showering...furthermore, my hair is not coloured or permed or whatever..it is in a natural state, black with soft waves....my styling usually means just combing and tying my hair into the style i want and applying serum at the end of it to keep my hair in place...my boyfriend tells me that I tie my hair all the time and it is too tightly tied up and this is causing strain on the hair and they are falling off...could this be true?i hate hair in my face that is why I usually tie all my hair back into a high ponytail and i hate how my long hair flies about when I let it go and even if it tied into a low, loose ponytail, i will feel the hair band slipping and some hair ends start coming out..

It could be, or it could be your diet. are you getting enough iron or protein, vitamins

it could be that you tie your hair to tight or it could be something else if you notice more and more falling out every time I would check with you doc and see if its normal but we do lose a lot through out a normal day so if its not huge clumps of hair i would generally not worry too much

If you are wearing your hair in a really tight ponytail it could very well be why you are losing your hair. I have read that tight ponytails and hairstyles where the hair is being continually pulled can cause hair loss.



Another reason for hair loss can be medications. If you are taking certain antiseizure drugs or antidepressants that could account for your hair loss.



Rapid weight loss can also cause hair loss. It shocks your system and affects hair, nails and teeth.



Vitamin deficiencies can also cause hair loss. I recommend a good vitamin supplement with alot of B vitamins like Biotin and the mineral zinc. Try Centrum. Also make sure to eat plenty of red meat. It helps your hair as well...



I think you should consider buying some sort of clip or barrette that can lightly pull your hair away from your face without overpulling it...

First off, the average person loses up to 150 strands of hair a day, and the longer your hair is, the more you notice it. I also have long dark hair so it is very obvious when it does fall out...you see it in pony tail holders, brushes, the drain, etc. So even though you think you are losing a lot of hair, you are probably just average. Also, wearing snug bands could have something to do with it. NEVER wear elestic bands with a medal piece on them, and elastic scrunchy-type cloth bands are better because they don't put so much strain on the hair. Tight elastic bands cause the hair shaft to break off. You could also try using clips to hold your hair up, which cause virtually no strain on the hair shaft. If however, you do think you are losing excessive hair, try using a shampoo that is stimulating to the scalp and used specially for hair growth, such as Nioxin or my personal favorite Total Repair by Aveda!

I would have to say that you do need to change the way you style your hair every day. Also the type of hair bow you are using could also have a lot to do with your breakage. Have you every thought of using a clip instead of one of those elastic hair bows? Rubber bands definitely shouldn't be used, the rubber causes the hair to break. Also keep in mind that you are supposed to lose some hair every time you comb it. Maybe you could try using a head band or some hair pins if you don't like the hair falling into your face. Check with a stylist to see what other alternatives could be. If you try something different and don't notice a change, consult a dermatologist.

You just need your hair trimmed. Split ends can do that when you do not get your hair trimmed every 2 Weeks. It happens to me all the time.
